New Uniforms For the Nebraska Cornhuskers

New Uniforms for the Nebraska Cornhuskers

The wait is finally over.  The Nebraska Cornhuskers had been rumored to have new uniforms that would be unveiled for their game against the Wisconsin Badgers.

The unveiling came early and today we have a view of the new uniforms.  I dig the new helmets, they look really nice with the black helmets and red "N".  I wish the rest of the uniform incorporated some more black into it but that is my own opinion.  Take a look at this video and you decide:

Fun Places To Go On Gameday in Lincoln

Fun Places To Go On Gameday in Lincoln

Saturdays in the fall are especially fun in Lincoln when the Nebraska Cornhuskers are playing.  I have yet to find a place downtown that wasn't a fun experience.  If you find yourself in Lincoln and thought far enough ahead to reserve a hotel room (I recommend the Cornhusker Marriot), you will be within walking distance of not only Memorial Stadium, but also to all of the tailgating.  You cannot go to a game without tailgating!!!

If you want to visit some bars you can't go wrong with Barry's or any of the bars located along P Street.  And if you want some amazing food, you should head to Misty's on 11th street after the game.  But get there fast because it is famous for its prime rib and you could be waiting for a long time to get a table.
Also, keep in mind that the Embassy Suites located across from Misty's serves a killer breakfast and an awesome party after the game.

Nebraska Football Gameday Experience

Nebraska Football Gameday Experience

Whether or not you are a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, I recommend you make it to at least one game in Lincoln.  The atmosphere of seeing 85,000 people in one stadium all dressed in red is amazing.  Certainly this experience is something you cannot get in Kansas.

Nebraska home games have been sold out for the last 47 years!  No other college team in the country can boast that.  Not even close!  Check out this slideshow of amazing pics of home games:

Paterno Statue Removed from PSU Campus

Paterno Statue Removed from PSU Campus

Joe Paterno, the late Penn State Football Coach, will no longer have a visual memorial on the campus of Penn State University.

The statue was built in 2001 in honor of Paterno's phenomenal record as head coach.  It was removed Sunday morning and its destination is unknown at this time.

The decision to take the statue down came after almost a years worth of investigation into the scandal that involved Jerry Sandusky, Paterno's Assistant Coach.  After findings indicated that Paterno knowingly enabled Sandusky to continue his horrible acts of molestation upon boys who visited the school.

Paterno's legacy at PSU has definitely been tainted but it will not be totally forgotten.  His name will stay on the campus library in recognition of all the good things he did for the school as well.

Football Bubble Close to Bursting

Football Bubble Close to Bursting

There have been some shocking events involving football players and coaches this offseason.  My fear is that with the recent transgressions by these individuals, the overall effect on the football culture in the United States could change.  Football has experienced a huge bubble.  Much like the housing market experienced before it finally burst a few years back.

Read the headlines on any sports page of current news happening in football, college or NFL, and there will usually be at least three stories of players or coaches getting in trouble.  Penn State ex-football coach Joe Paterno has been dominating headlines because of the shocking developments in his enabling of child molester Jerry Sandusky.  Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver, Dez Bryant, assaulted his mother last week.  Tennessee Titans Wide Receiver, Kenny Britt, arrested for DWI on a military base.  Seattle Seahawks Running Back, Marshawn Lynch, DUI.

The list could go on and on.  If you look at human nature and what happens when people obtain power, status, wealth, etc., it's easy to understand what is happening here.  They get to the point where they think they are above the law.  They can do whatever they want.  When that happens you can see that the fall from grace will be especially hard.

Could this lead to a decline in the popularity of football?  I believe that it will and it is the responsibility of these adults to be more responsible.  If not, there will definitely be a football recession.
